Local Dental Pilot Projects

SF DTI LDPP will implement five Local Dental Pilot Projects over the 4 years of the project which will seek to increase access and utilization of preventive dental services for Medi-Cal beneficiaries 0-5 years old and reduce early childhood caries experience for San Francisco's young children.
PILOT 1 DENTAL Access collaborative

Pilot 1 Dental Access Collaborative

The aim of the first pilot project is to increase access to Denti-Cal preventive services for 0-5 by providing quality improvement support for dental practices.  This first pilot utilizes the Breakthrough Series Collaborative methodology to teach dental practices in San Francisco how to implement efficient practice systems and provide preventive services to Denti-Cal beneificaries in a sustainable manner.
Pilot 2 care coordination

Pilot 2 Care Coordination

This second pilot will provide coordination of care for 0-5 year old Denti-Cal beneficiaries and their caregivers through bilingual health workers located at both San Francisco Department of Public Health and at the San Francisco Unified School District.   Health Workers will receive training to understand individual barriers to dental appointment compliance and develop skills to provide effective dental care coordination.
pilot 3 health promotion messaging

Pilot 3 Health Promotion Messaging

In collaboration with local Oral Health Community Taskforces, this pilot will develop culturally appropriate messages that promote children's oral health and address appointment compliance in a culturally sensitive manner.
pilot 4 interprofessional collaborative practice

Pilot 4 Interprofessional Collaborative Practice

This fourth pilot will utilize Integration Technical Advisors and local primary care champions to teach oral health competencies for Interprofessional Collaborative Practice including how to exchange meaningful information, facilitate patient navigation in the oral health care delivery system, and provide appropriate dental referrals in the primary care setting.
pilot 5 FQHC DUAL USER INcentivization

Pilot 5 Incentivizing Dual Users

The fifth and final pilot incentivizes increased referrals between the primary care and dental clinics in local Federally Qualified Health Centers to increase the proportion of dual primary-care dental users.
